How to Take a Relative Humidity Measurement Using the IC-12-7043 Sling Psychrometer

A sling psychrometer is a portable and incredibly easy-to-use temperature and humidity measuring device that doesn't require batteries. The IC-12-7043 consists of a dry and wet-bulb encased in a sturdy plastic casing with an onboard scale to aid in converting the results into a relative humidity measurement. The IC-12-7043 psychrometer is a worthwhile consideration for environmental monitoring, capturing field measurements and indoor applications where portability and low maintenance are critical.

Figure 1 Watch an Instrument Choice unbox and demonstrate how to measure relative humidity using the IC-12-7043 Sling Psychrometer here.

How to Take a Relative Humidity Measurement Using the IC-12-7043 Sling Psychrometer

You will need:

  1. The IC736700 Sling Psychrometer
  2. 50mL Water (approx.)

Taking a Measurement

  1. Twist to remove the reservoir cap on the end of the meter body.
  2. Immerse the end of the psychrometer body in water for 30 seconds or more, until the wick is saturated.
  3. Remove the psychrometer from water then fill the reservoir with water. Once full, replace the cap.
  4. Touch the wick to ensure it is wet and adjust if necessary to ensure it is completely covering the bulb.
  5. Pull the meter body from the tube until the body hangs free.
  6. Using the tube as a handle, whirl the body around in the air for a minute and a half.
  7. Read and record both the wet and dry bulb recorded temperatures immediately after spinning.
  8. Replace the body into the tube.

Using the Scale to Calculate Relative Humidity

  9. The upper-scale on the meter represents wet-bulb readings, and the centre movable scale represents the dry bulb reading. Find the markers for your dry and wet-bulb readings on each scale.
  10. Pull the tube to move the dry recorded reading to line up with the measured wet-bulb reading.
  11. When the two readings line up, find the small arrow on the dry-bulb scale pointing to the bottom row. This arrow is pointing to the relative humidity result.
  12. Always repeat measurements to ensure accuracy.

Conclusion

Relative humidity can be determined in twelve simple steps using the low-maintenance, low-cost, and battery-free IC-12-7043 Sling Psychrometer.

How to take a Concrete Moisture Measurement using the CME4 Concrete Encounter Moisture Meter

The CME4 concrete encounter moisture meter facilitates straightforward and regular checking of moisture content during the drying out phase of a laying a new concrete floor or screed. Checking moisture content levels during this period is essential to ensure that your concrete is dry enough to accept floor coverings. Failure to monitor moisture content risks latent problems such as adhesive failure, condensation, or warped floorboards.
