In this review, Instrument Choice scientists spotlight the LAQUAtwin series of eleven portable Horiba pocket meters and run through the parameters you can measure with each model.

What makes the LAQUAtwin Series Unique?

1. Unique Sensor Design: LAQUAtwin meters employ the same test principle as standard laboratory electrodes. However, the components fit into a flat sensor chip that is less than 1mm thick.
2. Impressive Sensor Range: 7 parameters, 11 models. You can select seven water quality parameters according to your requirements. These are; pH, conductivity, salt concentration, and ion concentrations Na+, K+, NO3-, and Ca2+.
3. Fast measurements: No cumbersome containers needed for sample analysis and calibration; place and contain your samples directly on the sensor - such direct sampling facilitates a quick and straightforward operation.
4. Intuitive Interface: A range of automatic features make these meters incredibly simple to use. These include; automatic temperature compensation, automatic hold, automatic range change, and automatic stabilisation indicated by a smiley face on the screen.

LAQUAtwin Meters

pH 

Features:

The Horiba LAQUAtwin pH series of meters all feature flat glass electrodes and an impressively small minimum sample volume of 0.1mL.

Applications:

Common uses for the LAQUAtwin pH meters include; freshwater testing, aquarium, effluent treatment, soil testing, food testing, research laboratories, quality control, and educational purposes.

Conductivity (EC)

Features:

The Horiba LAQUAtwin series of conductivity meters measure conductivity using a two-electrode bipolar AC sensor and require only a 0.12mL sample to obtain     accurate conductivity measurements. 

Applications:

Everyday examples of use include; freshwater testing, aquariums, soil, assessing saltwater damage, checking surface cleanliness, and checking surfaced to ensure improved paint adhesion.

Salt (NaCI)

LAQUAtwin Compact Salt Meter

Features:

The Salt11 meter features a robust titanium cell that resists corrosion caused by highly saline samples and has calibration curves for NaCl and seawater for more accurate salinity readings. The sample size required for this meter is a minimum of 0.3mL.

Applications:

Typical applications for the Salt11 meter include sampling in the agricultural industry, aquaculture, food quality control, and health management.

Compact Sodium Ion Meter LAQUA Twin

Features:

With an impressive minimum sample size of 0.3mL, the Na-11 compact sodium ion meter takes a quick measurement of sodium within a sample using the ion-selective membrane. Results are rapidly displayed on the easy to read LCD.

Applications:

Ideal for measure sodium ion concentration in food quality control, health management, environmental measurement, and saltwater damage testing.

The K-11 uses an ion-selective membrane to determine the concentration of potassium ions in a sample quickly and accurately. You can establish a potassium concentration in samples as small as 0.3mL.

Features:

The NO3-11 allows you to obtain fast and accurate nitrate results while on the go. The ion-selective flat membrane enables you to measure the sample directly without the need for a beaker. The nitrate ion sensor allows for samples from as small as 0.3mL.

Applications:

Popular applications for the NO3-11 include; soil testing, food quality control, cultivation management and, growth management of crops.

Features:

The CA-11 has a selective membrane ion for the measurement of calcium in various liquid mediums. Able to detect calcium concentration in as little as 0.3mL, the CA-11 is ideal in many research and industrial applications.

Applications:

Frequently used for; soil testing, food quality control, cultivation management, health management, breeding water of coral, and water hardness measurement.
