How to Setup and Download Data from the IC-RC-5-Plus Multi-use USB Temperature Data Logger with External Sensor

  1. Download and install the Elitech software. Find the link in the description below or go to elitechlog.com/softwares.
  2. Once installed, open the application.
  3. Remove the cap from your data logger and plug it into a free USB port on your computer.
  4. Wait for the program to communicate with the logger automatically.
  5. Once connected and without prompting, the software will redirect you to the logger’s ‘Summary’ page. This page displays information about the device as well as statistical data. (Statistics will remain blank until temperature data has collected.)
  6. Press the third icon on the top left to enter ‘Parameter Setup.’ You can select the ‘Start Mode,’ which you can find located between ‘Button Press,’ ‘Immediate Start’ (once unplugged), and ‘Timed Start’ on this page. Depending on your selection, other boxes may become available, such as when you select ‘Time Start,’ you can select an exact time and date.
  7. Next, select the ‘Logging Interval.’ Choose from hours, minutes, and seconds.
  8. Select the desired ‘PDF Results Language.’
  9. Select ‘Sensor Type’ and ‘Temperature Unit.’
  10. Once all desired parameters are selected, press ‘Save Parameter.’
  11. Remove the data logger from your computer’s USB port and replace the USB cap.
  12. Locate the logger in your desired location. That’s all you are required to do to set up the logger. Your start method will depend on what you select during the setup. For this example, we selected ‘Press Button Start.’ So to begin, press and hold the ‘Play’ button until the play icon appears on the top of the LCD.
  13. At any time during a temperature recording, you can view your measurements on the LCD. To do so, press the ‘Play’ button in the following sequence:
    1. Once to view ‘Current Temperature’
    2. A second time to see the number of ‘Data Points Collected’
    3. A third time to see ‘Current Time’
    4. A fourth time to see ‘Date’; and
    5. A fifth and sixth time to see maximum and minimum recorded ‘Temperature.’

How to Stop and Download Data from the IC-RC-5-Plus Multi-use USB Temperature Data Logger with External Sensor

Figure 1 Watch an Instrument Choice scientist demonstrate how to stop and download data from the IC-RC-5-Plus Multi-use USB Temperature Data Logger with External Sensor here.

  1. To stop temperature recording, press and hold the ‘Pause’ button until the ‘Play’ icon on the LCD is replaced by the ‘stop’ icon.
  2. Remove the USB cover and plug it into your computer.
  3. Open the Elitech software and wait for the USB to be recognised.
  4. As with setup, you open on a ‘Summary’ page that displays the device’s information. This time, however, the statistical information is filled with the collected temperature data that can include:
    1. Total Device Memory
    2. Mean Kinetic Temperature
    3. Maximum Temperature
    4. Current Readings
    5. Logging Duration
    6. Minimum Temperature
    7. Start Time
    8. Actual Stopping Mode
    9. Average Temperature
    10. First Reading
    11. Set Stop Mode
    12. First Alarm; and
    13. Last Reading
  5. To view a complete breakdown of the data, select ‘Graph’ from the menu at the top of the screen. A graph will appear, displaying all the measured readings.
  6. Running the mouse over the graph displays the ‘Log Number,’ ‘Recorded Temperature,’ and ‘Timestamp’ for each reading.
  7. Alternatively, you can view the data as a complete list by selecting ‘List.’
  8. The third tab at the top of the page is ‘Summary.’ The summary page provides essential information about your logger, along with collected temperature information.
  9. To export and save your collected temperature data, click ‘Export Data’ on the bottom right. Select from PDF, XLS, ELT, or TXT files.

And that’s how simple it is to stop and download data from the IC-RC-5-PLUS. If you would like to reset the logger and remove the collected information, return to Summary’ and hit ‘Quick Reset.’ Otherwise, restart the logger.

Conclusion

It’s easy to set up, navigate, and extract data from the IC-RC-5-Plus. This device is a perfectly practical solution for many temperature data logging applications, such as cold chain management in the pharmaceutical and food transport industries, checking environments in the life sciences and laboratories, or keeping the sensitive contents of freezers in good condition.
