Getting the Pool Ready For Summer
With the weather starting to warm up no doubt you have started to think about cleaning up the backyard pool or spa in preparation for the long hot summer we have ahead.

Pools can be a lot of fun and a great way to cool off during the warmer months, but it is important that the water quality is monitored and maintained to make sure it is safe. We have a small range of meters suited to use in swimming pools here

There is one main parameter you need to monitor when it comes to pool water quality, and that is pH.  The pH of the water is important as it affects 3 main factors in any pool, 1. Swimmers Comfort, 2. Chlorine Effectiveness and 3. General Water Quality.

Swimmers comfort is important, the pH of blood is approximately 7.5pH, this is why we want a pH of 7.4 - 7.6 for the pool water.  Blood comes the closest to surface of the body at our eyes, this is why a pH outside of 7.40 to 7.6 can result in sore/ red eyes.

The effectiveness of chlorine is directly related to the pH level of your pool water.  A pH range of 7.4 - 7.6 is when chlorine is most effective, outside of this range and the sterilising qualities of the chlorine are diminished possibly leading to harmful levels of bacteria.

As with chlorine many other pool chemicals are most effective within this ph7.4 - 7.6 range, affecting the general water quality of the pool.

The pH is most effectively monitored using a hand held pH meter such as the ECOPHTEST2,  a digital meter is far more accurate than test strips and also a lot easier to read, no more guessing if the blue is a green blue, or a bluey green and so on.

This meter is extremely easy to use and is waterproof and will even float, so it is very durable.  The unit is also sold in a kit with pH4 and pH7 buffer solution so you will always get the most accurate results possible.  This unit is very popular with home users because of its price and ease of use, our scientific sales consultants can answer any questions you might have regarding this or any other pH meter.
