About Salinity Measurement
Salinity is the measurement of the dissolved salts in water, which is one of the most tested water quality parameters in aquariums, aquaculture, brackish ecosystems and more. A digital salinity tester is a fast, practical and affordable way to determine these levels.
Like most living organisms, marine creatures in both wild and captive systems prefer a relatively stable external environment. Salt levels that change too rapidly or persist outside a species’ natural range can result in a range of physical and biological impacts.
Key Features of the IC-HI98319 Marine Salinity Tester
The IC-HI98319 is a compact, ergonomically designed salinity tester that’s popular for use in aquaculture, environmental monitoring and home aquariums, and is packed full of features you often found in professional-grade meters.
- Easy-to-Use: This tester boasts a simple-two button operation, shows the temperature and salinity readouts simultaneously, and users can select to view results in three different standard units.
- Measurement: Conductivity measurements converted using known conversion scales is how the IC-HI98319 determines salinity. See specifications (below) for the specific conversion tables used.
- Suitable Measurement Units: The instrument’s three user-selectable measurement units will suit any application. The IC-HI98319 Marine Salinity Tester displays results in parts per thousand (ppt), practical salinity units (PSU), or specific gravity (S.G.).
- Automatic Temperature Compensation: Conductivity measurements are highly sensitive to variations in temperature. This meter compensates automatically for temperature levels when taking a reading.
- Temperature Probe: The IC-HI98319 features an exposed temperature sensor that’s capable of rapid temperature measurements.
- Superior Temperature Probe Sensors: Rugged graphite sensors act to reduce polarisation effects common to other testers that use stainless steel instead. Graphite sensors do not oxidise in saline environments - a further benefit.
- You Get Everything You Need: Each HI98319 package includes the meter, 4 x 35 ppt calibration sachets and required batteries, all in a durable plastic storage case.
- Automatic Calibration: The IC-HI98319 Marine Salinity Tester will spontaneously recognise each calibration buffer solution when in measurement mode and fully immersed.
- Automatic Shut-Off: To help preserve battery life users can set auto-off for 8 minutes, 60 minutes, or when the device is disabled.
- Long Battery Life: Expect approximately 100 hours of continuous use before you need to replace your battery.
